Search Engine Optimization Fundamentals
There are a plethora of ways to send traffic to your Internet site. You can pay for it by buying website ads; you can use social networking to generate your visitors; you can develop a mailing list, or joint venture with other peoples' email lists; or you can gain traffic from organic search engine listings by using search engine optimization, known as SEO. The Search Engines Love Theme Relevance
When developing webpage content, do some preliminary keyword exploration to assemble a collection of related keywords that relate to that market. For instance, if you were writing some content relevant to 'success coaching', you should pepper your content with other associated & relevant keywords such as 'self image', 'financial success', and 'goal setting'.
It is alleged that the search engines can observe the length of time a person stays on your webpage before they navigate to another one, and the longer they stay, the more likely it is seen (to the search engines) that a website is of value and relevance to the users' search, and hence the greater the chance that the search engines will increase the ranking of your page. So make your writing relevant and helpful for this purpose. It will also increase the chance of visitors bookmarking your site to their favorites folder, which might lead not only to repeat visits, but to greater credibility with the search engines.
Meta-tags
A further key with search engine optimization is to be assured that you make the best use possible of each of the meta-tags on your webpages. The main ones of importance are the Description Tag and the Title Tag. The Description tag is what appears underneath the title in the search engine result lisitings, and the Title Tag is the blue underlined text link that appears above the description.
The title tag should not be more than 60 characters in length, this includes spaces, and the Description tag should not exceed 140 characters. Consider the webpage corner peelaway ads website as an example. If you Google the term "peel away ads" you will see its title tag display as: "Peel Away Ads with Awesome Bonuses - $17", and the description tag is: "Peel Away Ads is the perfect solution to grab the attention of your website's visitors. This Peel Ads package includes 7 software programs for a total ..." You will note that the description tag has been truncated after the initial one hundred and fifty characters. This is the same thing that will happen with a title tag when it is longer than sixty five characters. What you place within these two tags are not only important for ranking for the keywords that you are seeking, but in addition to that, what you place within them will have a huge bearing as to whether people click through to your website or not.
